Six Decades of Cathay Pacific Airways History

The origins and development of Cathay Pacific Airways are commemorated in a new museum exhibition exploring the airline’s sixty-plus years of history. Presented by San Francisco Airport Museums, “Cathay Pacific Airways: Six Decades of Service” is on view from April 16 to Sept. 5 in the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum at San Francisco International Airport.

The story of Cathay Pacific’s growth from a small, Hong Kong-based regional airline in 1946 to its current status as a major international carrier with 120 destinations — and a reputation for impeccable passenger service—is traced through the artifacts chosen for the exhibition. Over sixty-five historic photographs, examples of printed materials, and three-dimensional objects are featured. Cathay Pacific’s fleet history is portrayed in fifteen highly-detailed scale model aircraft from the Douglas DC-3 and Boeing jetliners to the Airbus A340. Flight attendant uniforms representing six decades of fashion capture the airline’s distinct style, while its commitment to elegance and exceptional cuisine is evident in the fine china and silver meal service wares created for specialized menus that are on display.

The San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum , part of San Francisco Airport Museums, is located pre-security on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal, adjacent to the entrance to Boarding Area A. The library and museum is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and closed Saturdays and holidays. For more information about the library and museum, please visit http://www.sfoarts.org/about/alm.html.

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways serves more than one million passengers a month to Asia, Europe and North America . For more information, visit: www.cathaypacific.com/us.

Do all adult kangaroos have pouches? Yes or No?

The planet Earth is located in what galaxy?

What unit of power is abbreviated by the letter W?

Muscles are attached to bones by which of the following?-Ligaments, Tendons or Marrow?

After reading the above questions, some of you will promptly want to take help from 10-year-olds in the neighborhood and still many will refuse to say that “I’m not smarter than a Fifth grader.”

SBA Tie-up

The U.S. Small Business Administration has announced it will coordinate small business outreach efforts with the U.S. India Business Alliance to advance export opportunities to India for small businesses. SBA and USIBA have signed a strategic alliance memorandum that will allow them to share resources to help start, maintain and expand small businesses, particularly through trade with India.

“The Strategic Alliance Memorandum will further align the SBA and USIBA missions to support America's small businesses,” said SBA administrator Steve Preston. “Working together, we can strengthen U.S. small businesses by helping them access growing markets like India, where business and consumer demand for U.S. products and services is on the rise.”

“USIBA is excited about administrator Preston's enthusiastic promotion of a trade agenda,” said Sanjay Puri, president and CEO of the US-India Business Alliance. “This SAM with SBA will extend each organization's efforts to foster and facilitate further involvement by the US small business community in trade with India. We look forward to an enduring and impacting institutional relationship that will continue to contribute in a meaningful fashion for many years to come.”

The SBA and USIBA alliance will strengthen and expand small business exporting opportunities through education, advocacy and matchmaking opportunities. SBA will provide USIBA with timely information on the agency’s programs, services and resource partners, update them on events that will advance their mission, provide speakers at USIBA events in accordance with SBA rules and policies, invite them to SBA-sponsored events when appropriate, provide a hyperlink from SBA’s Web site to USIBA’s Web site, and assign a point of contact to serve as a liaison between SBA and USIBA.
