TAMIL FILM REVIEW:
Missed Opportunity: Kanimozhi

Cast: Jai, Vijay Vasanth, Shahazn Padamsee and Swathi
Music: Satish Chakravarthy
Director: Sripathy Rangasamy

An erstwhile assistant of director Venkatprabhu, debutant director Sripathy Rangasamy ‘s Kanimozhi, has been produced by Amma Creations’ T. Siva and Sona Heiden’s Uniq Productions. The film managed raises expectations, primarily due to its title (which is the name of Kalaignar’s daughter) and the grand audio release function attended by Kalaignar himself.

Rangasamy has chosen romance — a ubiquitous and risk-free theme — for his first film. In Kanimozhi, he portrays the two different approaches of love and its culmination through the two lead male characters in Jai and Vijay Vasanth.

Jai plays the typical cheerful student whose expertise is in visual communication and who spends his life in a rather carefree manner. Debutant Shahazn Padamsee is a pretty woman who lives in the same locality. Inevitably, Jai meets her and falls in love with her after a few customary meetings.

The problem, again hardly original in Tamil cinema, is how to convey his love to her. Meanwhile, Vijay Vasanth, who hails from another locality also finds himself in love with Shahazn. Vasanth’s approach in conveying his love differs vastly from that of Jai.

He seeks the aid of a simple lie which results in his parents approaching the girl’s side to initiate the marriage proposal.

For Jai, it is just another film in his career and there is nothing more or less to add to this; the same holds good for Vijay Vasanth too. About the heroine, the less said the better. Despite her stunning looks, she has miles to go in terms of acting.

Swathi, the heroine of Subramaniapuram, appearing in a small cameo towards the climax, and impresses.

Music by debutant music director Satish Chakravarthy is reasonably good especially “Muzhumadhi…” His effort goes in vain as Rangasamy badly fails to make full use of the music. For some strange reason, cinematography looks off color throughout the film.

Director Rangasamy messes up a golden opportunity to deliver a hit in his first film under a prestigious banner like Amma creations. Though he appears hungry for success, his film-making abilities haven’t developed fully. A dull screenplay fails to engage the viewers’ interest for more than two hours.
