John Abraham: A Happy Man

After Race 2, John Abraham is ready for Shootout at Wadala which is expected to make it two in a row for the action hero. With Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor showing good faith in him to deliver goods and putting their money on the man who is reveling in the new find image of ‘Action Abraham,’ John is all excited to build a long standing association with the makers.

“I am aware that people say something like this all the time but to be honest, I am very grateful to both Sanjay and Ekta. The way they have showed their faith, I am going to repay that in a big way. Sanjay Gupta and I are now friends for life. He is writing his next film and there is this blind diktat that I will work with him again,” says John who was also the lead antagonist in the filmmaker's last full fledged directorial feat, Zinda, “As for Ekta, she is by far one of the best producers in the industry that I have worked with.”

Continuing, John adds, “See, I have had horrific experiences with some studios in the recent past. However these guys are indeed different. It is always nice to work with people who believe in you and trust you to deliver goods; it is as simple as that. I would love to work with Ekta again. As a matter of fact we are talking about ideas and subjects that could possibly be developed in the near future.”

After working with Sanjay more than half a decade back in Zinda, John feels that the director of films like Aatish, Kaante and Musafir stays on to be uncorrupted as far as telling an entertaining tale is concerned.

“Sanjay approached Shootout at Wadala with a lot of honesty and a clean heart. Over the years he was untouched by what was happening in the industry. He also had a fire inside him to prove himself. I truly believe that the hero of the film is none other than Sanjay himself. I also believe that he has totally outdone himself with the film,” says John.

Taking a pause, he continues, “I know that it is presumptuous of all of us to blow our own trumpets and sing praises for our film. However for something like Shootout at Wadala, one is bound to get into that mode. As for the final product, it is out now. Ultimately it is up there for audience to announce their verdict. I guess it is time for us to step back and let them take the final call.”

Bobby Deol, Neha Sharma: Pay Homage to Salman in YPD 2

(Above): Neha Sharma

Neha Sharma has all the right reasons to rejoice. Her Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is catching eyeballs well in advance even though the film is a month away. Moreover with good endorsement coming from within as well as outside the industry, the buzz is just right. Now with the makers planning to unveil a special song and dance number where she is matching steps with Bobby Deol while paying a homage of sorts to Salman Khan, Neha is sure that the hype would only increase manifold from this point on.

“I can't wait for the song to come out. It is a very cue masala dance number where Bobby and I are shaking our legs in line with a quintessential Salman Khan song. We are following some of his trademark dance steps. Since both Bobby and I are playing Salman Khan's fans in the film, the song will pretty much establish our chemistry,” says Neha Sharma who is fast becoming a regular with sequels. Her last sequel was Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum.

Other than the aforementioned number, there is also a song called “Suit Tera Laal Rang De” which features her alongside all the three Deols – Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby.

“Yes, that song would be unveiled soon as well. It is an engagement track,” confirms Neha.

Meanwhile she is happy to be paired opposite Bobby in the film. Though the man is 20 years her senior, thankfully there is no apparent age difference that is showing, courtesy Bobby's still-so-young looks.

“This also drills from the fact that as a person he still has very childish look," Neha says, “Moreover, he doesn't take himself so seriously. He is just like a kid on the sets. He looks like one too and hence the youth factor is all the more apparent. I am glad that we are looking cute together, the age difference not showing at all.”

Saif Turns Warrior

(Above): Saif Ali Khan in "Go Goa Gone.”

Saif Ali Khan is indeed in the thick of things. If his forthcoming films are all set to keep him occupied for over a year, there is more in the pipeline, the work on which has already begun. One such film is a love story where he will turn into a warrior.

“Though it is still early stages, there are definite plans of bringing the film on floors. This is a mega love story of a warrior. The film would also involve reincarnation,” confirms a source close to Saif.

The film would be produced by Illuminati Films. Dinesh Vijan, Saif Ali Khan's partner, is creatively involved in putting it all together.

“Makers are tight lipped on the title, the leading lady, as well as the film’s director. They wish to keep mum till all logistics are in place and it is time to make an official announcement,” the source adds.

When contacted, Saif confirmed that the film is on. He added in a guarded tone, “Currently I am occupied with Go Goa Gone and Bullet Raja. Post that I begin my film with Sajid Khan, Kabir Khan and Prabhudheva. This ‘warrior’ film will happen after that.”

Karan Johar: Crazy Months Ahead

(Above): Deepika Padukone (l) in “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.”

Karan Johar has been enjoying busy times for the last 15 years, ever since he turned director with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. However, never ever in his career has he seen as many as three releases in a single month. The unthinkable is happening in the month of May, with Bombay Talkies, Gippi and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani arriving one after another.

No wonder, Karan has his hands full with things expected to keep him occupied for days, as well as nights.

“Yes, it has been extremely hectic but then it should be fun too,” says Karan, "Bombay Talkies is not for the box office and numbers. Those who step into the film would be the ones who relish and cherish Hindi cinema and have certain respect for the filmmakers involved in it. Even though we are not thinking commercial, the commitment has been 300% percent.”

Another film, a pet project, is Gippi. It is a film produced by Karan and has started creating a decent buzz for itself.

“Yes, this is our first very tiny film with a large heart that is coming out of Dharma Productions,” Karan fondly recollects, “It is the coming of age story of a girl. I loved the script.  I want to position our production house in such a way that the message goes out around us pushing the bar. We are not just about hardcore commercial projects but also a company that wants to step into different genres. Gippi is the first step in that direction where a different breed of content is being rolled out.”

While for this film, Karan's endeavor is to reach out to a large audience, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone is pretty much something he could worry less about.

“That of course is a big film. It is going to be one of the first major releases coming out of Dharma this year. We have to pull all the stops for this one. Trust me, it was a difficult film to make due to multiple locations and weather conditions involved. Still, we have pulled this one. It is time now for the audience to provide their verdict, though I have to add that going by the response to just three songs, “Badtameez Dil,” “Balam Pichkaari” and “Dilliwali Girlfriend,” we are on the right track,” adds a confident Karan.

Tiger Shroff: Heropanti Similar to Dad Jackie's Hero?

(Above): Tiger Shroff

After close to a year of intense preparations that went into grooming Tiger Shroff, his debut film Heropanti is now on floors. While this Sajid Nadiadwala-production has been confirmed for arrival next Valentine's Day (Feb. 14, 2014), the very title makes one believe that the film would be as massy as it gets.

Says director Sabbir Khan, "The movie is about this boy who is young and has a new outlook for life. The film is called Herogiri because even the hero in the film is little more evolved than an average person. See, once in a life do you see a real life hero. Here, Tiger is playing someone who is a rebel. He doesn't do something which the society asks him to do or what the generation gone by has followed.”

Considering the fact that Tiger's father Jackie Shroff too had started his career as a male lead with Hero, where he had played a rebel, one wonders whether there are any similarities whatsoever.

“See, in a broad stroke you could possibly compare the genres and that too if you have to necessarily box it. However the two stories are drastically different. In fact it is very difficult to draw any comparisons whatsoever. The only similarity is that just like Jackie came out of adverse situations in Hero and emerged as one, in Herogiri too the boy would come out as a hero,” Sabbir continues.

The film's female lead is popular model Kriti Sanon who would soon be making her screen debut opposite Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu. While deciding to make her Hindi film debut with the production house Nadiadwala Grandson, Kriti is now gearing up for a love story that would be a strong thread trying together Heropanti.

“Kriti is playing someone who is at the crossroads in life and is a little disturbed. She comes from a dignified family while being a young independent girl. Her character reflects what is happening in today's India. Her love story is very relevant to today's times,” elaborates Sabbir.
